I thought losing weight would be pretty straightforward: Eat well, go to the gym and the rest would take care of itself. When Vinnie worked on my mindset surrounding weight loss I realized that without intention and removing my own barriers, the rest would be moving at a snail’s pace. Vinnie’s coaching gave me drive, intention, laser-focus and awoke the athlete I always wanted to be. Through his mindset coaching and the exercises tailored to my goals and my vision for myself, I have achieved goals in my health that I felt were beyond my reach, such as completing my first 5k, weighing under 200 lbs. for the first time in 10 years, signing up for capoeira martial arts class, and running my first half marathon and the Tough Mudder race in 2018. More importantly, Vinnie’s coaching has set up me for long-term success with his exercises and coaching. My days of being overweight, little self-esteem, and turning to food for comfort are officially behind me and I look forward to a life full of exploration, fun, joy and curiosity of the activities that await for me.
Before my first call with Vince, I was a little nervous about this whole process. More than anything I think I was already scared to fail. I’ve never committed myself to anything like this involving my diet and exercise. What I didn’t realize before Vince’s call was how much of this program has just as much to do with my mental health as well. After talking with Vince yesterday, I already felt a sense of relief and peace. I became really excited to start this journey. I not only think I am going to create a better routine and habits for myself, I think it is going to positively affect my mental health. I am also really excited to be taking this journey with my partner. I am excited to see the ways our relationship will grow stronger through us both having more self-confidence, a more positive mindset, and being about to encourage each other along the way. I am also excited to see how it affects all the other relationships with the people in my life. I believe that through this program, I am just going to become a better version of myself than I have ever been. I can already picture how it is going to affect all areas of my life. I think it will help me to be more successful in my work, my time management, my mental and physical well-being, and just be a better person overall. I can picture becoming more mentally healthy than I have been in a very long time. It is already making me feel a stronger bond and a more stable relationship with my boyfriend. It makes me feel like I have a true partner to do life with. It is giving me hope to be able to let go of some of the trust issues I have because of unhealthy relationships from my past. To be able to let go of things that have been holding me back from finding true happiness. I have already gotten more out of one conversation than I feel I have gotten out of years of therapy and medication. I believe more that I can accomplish anything I put my mind to. I believe I am going to be able to release a lot of the pain and doubt that I have had buried deep down inside of me for so long. I believe that through feeling better about my physical appearance, obtaining healthy eating habits, and shifting the way I look at life, that this is going to be a true game changer for me. I’m so thrilled to be starting this process to become the best me I can be.
My experience with fitness and wellness started my freshman year when I earned a part time position at the Kent State Student Recreation and Wellness Center. Not long after I started my position I met the Founder/CEO of Mezomorphx, Vincent Dangerfield. When I met Vincent I was a blank slate; I knew very little about training, form, proper nutrition, or even personal goals in the gym. It didn’t take long for his enthusiasm and passion for a healthy lifestyle to convince me to make the lifelong commitment to fitness and wellness. As time went on, I watched Vincent coach himself to compete for a place in Men’s Physique at the Natural Ohio show in 2014. I learned an abundance of information as I followed him along his journey. I became familiar with essential concepts such as the importance of macronutrients during prep, proper form while lifting, and how to make the healthiest decisions out of the gym. After his victory, I was inspired to push myself just as hard and compete the following year. Using Vincent as my coach, I competed in the bikini class at Mr. and Ms. Buffalo as well as at Natural Ohio in 2015. The same dedication and commitment that he gave himself in his prep, I saw him give to mine. I saw him give the same dedication and commitment to my prep that he gave to his own. He took on the responsibility of my weekly diet changes, my training program, and even helped during posing practices. He has continually proved to care not only about his own well-being but to care even more so about others. Watching Vincent’s drive, passion, and commitment to living the healthiest way possible has helped push myself in ways I’ve never dreamed of. I continue to set new health related goals and aspire to compete again after I graduate college. The knowledge that was shared with me long ago is still put to use every day when I lift and make health conscientious decisions. A part of my self-confidence has come from what I have accomplished in the gym, and what I accomplished in the gym came from the knowledge that Vincent and his company Mezomorphx has shared with me.
